Category: Questionnaire DesignAre open-ended questions in a questionnaire enough?

Hi scholars,
I have 4 questionnaires in my study, and 3 of them are full with open and close-ended questions but 4th questionnaire has only open-ended questions. I am using a mixed method in my study. So, is it ok to have only open ended questions in 1 questionnaire out of 4. I have been searching for an answer but I can’t find any. Please tell me what are your thoughts.
Thank you.

I think if you are using a mixed method in your study then you should do every survey in your research accordingly. In particular, your study should have both open-ended and close-ended questions in every survey.

Mixed methodology basically means the use of two types of approaches, but every researcher has its own definition of the term. Many researchers tend to speak of qualitative research even when they use open-ended questions in a quantitative Survey. I would suggest you do not claim a mixed method for your research.

See, I don’t have such knowledge but would surely suggest you a book. It will really help you:
Creswell, J. W. (2013). Research design: Qualitative, quantitative, and mixed methods approaches. Sage publications
You can read this book and learn about the various approaches.

I think it is ok to have one questionnaire full of open-ended questions out of four. You can use it.
