Yes, to a significant degree. Modern AI, particularly large language models (LLMs), learns language through a data-driven process analogous to, but not identical to, humans. It starts from vast textual data (not alphabets), statistically learning patterns of words, grammar, and context. However, it lacks human grounding in sensory experience and intrinsic motivation. While it can master syntax and semantics to a high level, it does not "understand" meaning with human-like consciousness or world knowledge. It is a powerful, imitation of the *output* of language learning.
