Can you gamify a research lab using psychology theory?
Could we use gamification (like points and badges) to motivate scientists and innovators in a lab or university? Is there a psychological theory that would make this effective?

Absolutely, and Self-Determination Theory (SDT) is the perfect framework. SDT says people are motivated by three needs: autonomy, competence, and relatedness. You can design gamification elements (badges for skill mastery, team challenges for collaboration) within a Science & Innovation system to directly satisfy these needs. This turns the complex process of research and knowledge-sharing into a more engaging and intrinsically motivating "game."
