The choice between a DC and an AC microgrid depends largely on the application and load characteristics. DC microgrids are more efficient when integrating solar photovoltaic systems, battery storage, and electronic loads, as they minimize power conversion losses. AC microgrids, on the other hand, offer better compatibility with existing grid infrastructure and are well suited for traditional AC loads such as motors. In many practical cases, a hybrid AC/DC microgrid provides the best solution by combining the strengths of both systems through power electronic converters.
