Chaos theory studies systems that appear random but are actually deterministic, governed by precise laws that are extremely sensitive to initial conditions. One of the best introductory texts is “Chaos: Making a New Science” by James Gleick, which explains the historical development and main concepts like the butterfly effect and fractals. For a more technical approach, “Nonlinear Dynamics and Chaos” by Steven Strogatz provides mathematical tools to analyze chaotic systems, including bifurcation diagrams, Lyapunov exponents, and attractors, making it suitable for physics or engineering students.
