Experimental analysis or Software analysis for analysis of heat transfer efficiency?

Hi, i am persuing my PhD in thermal Engineering and presently researching on analysis of heat transfer efficiency. The problem here is i am confused whether should I use experimental analysis or software analysis. Can any body help me to get a clarification?

In research oriented projects 90% of people will prefer software analysis as it is termed to be feasible. But yes if you use experimental analysis the result of the reseach work can be more efficient.
