Optimizing control for an existing PV+BESS setup requires a data-driven approach that accounts for real-world operational constraints. Historical generation and load data can be used to model the system’s actual behavior. Based on this, an optimization problem—often implemented through Model Predictive Control (MPC)—can be formulated to schedule battery charging and discharging. Typical objectives include maximizing self-consumption, reducing peak demand, or delivering grid services. A key challenge lies in integrating the optimization algorithm with existing inverter and battery management system (BMS) hardware, either through available APIs or by deploying an external supervisory controller.
