How is potassium bi-iodate solution prepared for analytical applications?

As a lab manager ensuring analytical accuracy, I require a precise, reproducible method. I'm looking for the expert nuances beyond the textbook recipe that guarantee a solution of known, high accuracy for redox titrations like assessing thiosulfate.

The key is starting with high-purity, crystalline KIO3·HIO3, dried at 110°C. I would recommend dissolving an accurately weighed mass in distilled water without heating, as excessive heat can affect stability. Transfer quantitatively to a volumetric flask rinsing is critical. For standardization, I have seen the most consistent results by using it to titrate against a sodium thiosulfate solution, with starch indicator, following a strict protocol. The solution is exceptionally stable if stored in amber glass, but avoid prolonged exposure to light or contaminants during use.
