Is a scientific approach to curriculum superior to a non‑scientific or humanistic approach?
I am examining philosophical assumptions underlying curriculum approaches.Scientific models emphasize evidence, structure, and measurability, while humanistic models emphasize meaning and values. This question seeks an informed comparison rather than a binary judgment.

From my experience in curriculum studies, I would resist framing this as an either?or choice. Scientific approaches bring rigor, clarity, and accountability, especially in STEM and skills?based learning. Humanistic approaches, however, address values, identity, ethics, and meaning—dimensions essential for holistic education. I have seen the most effective curricula integrate both: using scientific evidence to inform design while grounding learning in human experience. Balance, not dominance, produces deeper and more sustainable educational outcomes.
