Is It Time to Retire the "SOC" Acronym?

The term "Security Operations Center" feels a bit old-school. With all the automation, threat hunting, and proactive work we do now, should we be calling it something else?

The acronym "SOC" is definitely ingrained, but you're right—the job has evolved far beyond a passive "operations" center. Some in the industry are pushing for names that reflect its modern, intelligence-driven role, like Cyber Defense Center (CDC) or simply emphasizing the SOAR (Security Orchestration, Automation, and Response) function. While the core mission of monitoring and responding remains, a new name could better capture its proactive, integrated, and automated nature in today's threat landscape.
