Is Research Gap the same thing as Research Objectives‑ Why is research gap so important in PhD research.
As I draft my proposal, I'm trying to precisely articulate my research's foundation. The terms "gap" and "objectives" are used constantly, but their distinction seems blurred. Understanding why the gap is the non-negotiable starting point would really help me solidify my rationale.

They are fundamentally different but sequentially linked. The research gap is the void in the literature the unanswered question or untested theory. Your research objectives are the actions you will take to fill that specific void. I have seen many proposals fail because objectives were merely a list of tasks without a clear gap to justify them. The gap is paramount because it's your scholarly contribution in embryonic form. It answers the "so what?" for your committee and the field. Without a demonstrable gap, you are just reinventing the wheel.
