Is there information available on Sruchk Castle in the Galal Valley of northwest Iraq?
In my research on frontier fortifications in the Kurdish regions, references to Sruchk Castle in the Galal Valley are sporadic. I'm trying to compile a dossier and assess its significance within the network of castles in the region. Are there any published surveys, architectural analyses, or primary historical accounts, perhaps from Ottoman or earlier periods, that focus on this site?

My fieldwork in the broader Barzan region has shown that Sruchk Castle, like many in the Galal Valley, is under-published. I would recommend starting with foundational works by Al-Jubouri and Syrian archaeological survey reports from the 1980s that sometimes note these peripheral sites. Your best bet is often "gray literature" from local heritage offices. I have seen that correlating Ottoman tax records with the physical remains can be fruitful for establishing a timeline. Reaching out to researchers at the University of Dohuk could yield recent, unpublished survey data.
