David Hume famously identified the "is-ought" gap, arguing one cannot logically deduce a moral obligation from a mere fact of nature. This remains a central problem in meta-ethics. While some (naturalists) argue moral facts are a type of natural fact, the leap requires a bridging premise (a value or normative principle) that is itself not purely descriptive.
