What are recommended publications on environmental science and ecology?

The volume of literature is overwhelming. I want to streamline my reading by subscribing to alerts from a select set of top-tier journals that publish seminal work across environmental science, from applied remediation to theoretical ecology. I'm looking for the titles considered "must-reads" by established academics.

Based on editing and reviewing for many of these, I'd recommend a tiered approach for your alerts. For broad, high-impact environmental science, set alerts for Environmental Science & Technology and Nature Sustainability. For more applied ecology and management, include Ecological Applications and Journal of Applied Ecology. For pure ecological theory, Ecology Letters and Trends in Ecology & Evolution are essential. I also recommend including one strong society journal like Ecology (ESA) or Journal of Ecology (BES). Don't just rely on impact factor; also consider if the journal's scope consistently matches your research themes.
