What are the key tensions between curriculum theory and actual pedagogical practice, and how can these tensions be mitigated, if not eliminated?

I am reflecting on how curriculum theories often fail to translate smoothly into teaching practice.Teachers operate under constraints such as time, assessment demands, and institutional culture. This question explores why tensions persist and how alignment might be improved.

From my experience working with curriculum reforms, I have consistently seen tension arise because curriculum theory is often abstract, while pedagogy is deeply contextual. Teachers must respond to student diversity, assessment pressures, and resource constraints, which theory rarely accounts for fully. I would recommend mitigating these tensions through teacher involvement in curriculum design, sustained professional development, and flexible frameworks rather than prescriptive syllabi. When theory is treated as a guiding lens rather than a script, alignment becomes more realistic and productive.
