What is the best method to sample a porphyry deposit?

I'm leading a field mapping and sampling program for a potential porphyry target. The alteration is complex, with vein stockworks and disseminated mineralization. I'm concerned about sampling bias should I prioritize channel samples, chip lines, or a specific grid pattern? I need a strategy that will give our assays the best chance of reflecting the true, bulk tonnage grade for resource estimation.

From my experience with several porphyry projects, the key is systematic coverage over selectivity. I would recommend establishing a consistent grid, say 25x25 meters, and collecting composite chip samples along each line. This captures the disseminated nature of the mineralization. Absolutely sample every vein and stockwork, but weigh them within your composite based on estimated abundance. For advanced targets, nothing replaces diamond drill core for subsurface truth. Always duplicate 5-10% of your samples to check assay precision and bag half the core for future metallurgical testing.
