Are there recent publications on Portuguese trade with Brazil during the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries?

My dissertation covers Atlantic trade networks, and the Portuguese case is vital.
I’m familiar with the classic works by Boxer and Russell-Wood, but my committee wants contemporary engagement.
I need to identify key historians publishing in the last 5-10 years.
What are the new debates, methodological approaches, or archival discoveries driving the field now?

The field has moved significantly beyond imperial narratives. I would recommend you focus on recent scholarship emphasizing local Brazilian agency, environmental commodification, and illicit trade. Look at the work of Cátia Antunes on global networks, Júnia Ferreira Furtado on science and commodities, and Ernesto Martins on trade contracts. Key journals are Portuguese Studies Review and Hispanic American Historical Review. I have seen great panels on this at the Brazilian Studies Association (BRASA) conferences, where new archival work on regional economies is prominent.
