Besides Brazil, in which countries is the public prosecutors’ office independent from the state attorneys’ office?

Brazil’s Ministério Público is often cited as unique. I want to know whether similar institutional separation exists elsewhere. This is for comparative constitutional research.

I have seen comparable models in countries like Italy and Portugal, where public prosecutors enjoy constitutional independence distinct from government legal services. From my experience, these systems aim to insulate prosecution from political influence, especially in corruption cases. However, the Brazilian model remains unusually strong in scope and autonomy. I would recommend examining Southern European civil law systems, where prosecutorial independence is historically rooted but balanced by judicial oversight.
