Does the basic structure doctrine make constitutions excessively rigid?

This arises from studying amendment theory. The doctrine protects core constitutional principles. I’m concerned about democratic flexibility.

From my experience, the doctrine increases rigidity but not unreasonably so. I have seen it function as a safeguard against authoritarian capture rather than everyday reform. The risk lies in over-expansion by courts. I would recommend viewing rigidity as a feature, not a flaw, provided courts apply the doctrine with restraint and clear justification.
