Did time begin with the Big Bang?

Did time exist before the Big Bang, or is its beginning fundamentally linked to that event?

According to the prevailing cosmological model (General Relativity), spacetime itself originated in the Big Bang singularity. Therefore, time, as part of the fabric of the universe, began then. However, some quantum gravity theories (e.g., loop quantum cosmology) suggest a "bounce" from a prior universe, implying time may be more fundamental. In the standard model, time is inseparable from our universe's expansion, starting ~13.8 billion years ago, but the ultimate "beginning" remains an open question.
