Where can I find good literature on AGN X-ray variability?
The literature on AGN is vast. I need to quickly find the key papers that established the standard models (like the lamp-post model) and the most cited recent reviews that summarize the state of the field from XMM-Newton and NuSTAR data. A few seminal references would give me a solid launchpad for my own research.

For a strong foundation, I would recommend starting with two classic reviews. First, find "X-ray variability of AGN" by McHardy (2010) in The Astronomy and Astrophysics Review  it's a benchmark. Then, look for more recent works by authors like Giovanni Miniutti or Michael Parker that incorporate data from XMM-Newton and NuSTAR. Also, search NASA ADS for the term "lamp-post model" and sort by citations; the early papers by Martocchia and Karas will come up. This will give you the historical development and the current frontier, especially regarding reverberation mapping and relativistic effects very close to the black hole.
