Do Islamic principles primarily promote peace or violence when examined academically?
Public debates often frame Islam in simplistic binary terms.Academic perspectives tend to be historically and socially grounded.I want to understand how scholars approach this question.

From my experience engaging with sociological and religious studies, scholars overwhelmingly reject framing Islam as inherently violent or peaceful. I have seen research emphasize that Islamic texts, like others, are interpreted within specific historical and political contexts. I would recommend focusing on how power, colonial history, and contemporary conflicts shape selective readings of religion. This approach shows that violence is socially produced, not doctrinally predetermined.
