How can mobile phone use be theoretically linked to personal agency?

Mobile phones are often framed as tools or technologies.I’m interested in how theory explains their role in shaping action and choice. This is particularly relevant in everyday and social research contexts.

From my experience, mobile phone use is best understood as expanding, but also reshaping, personal agency rather than simply enabling it. I have seen scholars frame phones as mediating decision-making, coordination, and self-presentation within structural constraints. I would recommend linking agency to how individuals strategically use mobile technologies to navigate time, space, and social expectations rather than assuming agency automatically increases with access.
