How can performance indicators for green management be effectively developed?

I am researching green management and want to understand how organizations can develop meaningful performance indicators. I am particularly interested in metrics that go beyond compliance and capture real environmental and managerial impact.

From my experience, effective green management indicators should be closely linked to an organization’s core operations rather than treated as add-ons. I have seen the most useful indicators focus on resource efficiency, emission intensity, waste reduction, and process improvement over time. I would recommend combining quantitative measures with qualitative assessments, such as management commitment and employee engagement. Indicators should be context-specific, comparable over time, and tied to decision-making so they genuinely guide green managerial behavior rather than simply reporting outcomes.
