I’m a final-year EE student in Europe looking for a Master’s in Antenna Design with a strong mandatory industry placement or co-op. Which universities in the EU and US are known for this practical model?
I'm keen on a career in industry, not academia. I'm looking for programs—like the UK's "Thick Sandwich" courses or similar models in continental Europe/US—where a 6-12 month industrial placement is a formal, integrated part of the curriculum, not just an optional summer internship. Which universities have established pipelines with major aerospace or telecom companies (e.g., Airbus, Ericsson, Qualcomm) for such placements? I'm less interested in pure research rankings and more in employment outcomes and practical training.

For this specific model, your best bets are in Europe. In the UK, the University of Surrey (MSc in RF and Microwave Engineering) has a renowned Professional Training Year with a near-100% placement rate into companies like BAE Systems and Sky. University of Leeds also has strong industry-linked MSc programs. In Sweden, Chalmers University of Technology integrates thesis projects with industry (e.g., Ericsson, Saab) but doesn't have a formal, long co-op term in the US style. In the US, co-op is more common at the undergraduate level. However, Northeastern University (Boston) is famous for its graduate co-op model across engineering disciplines. Also, the M.Eng. program at Cornell often includes substantial industry projects. Focus on programs with a dedicated "Professional Placement" office, not just a careers service.
