Is the idea of a hero shaped by modern popular culture such as superhero narratives?
I'm analyzing archetypes across mythic and modern narratives. I'm concerned that the commercial, hyper-individualistic superhero model may be flattening our collective psychological and ethical conception of heroic action, making it harder to recognize "ordinary" heroism in historical or social contexts.

Having studied mythic structures across eras, I would caution against letting any single narrative form dominate. Superhero stories offer powerful metaphors, but their focus on innate power and spectacle can obscure the more demanding, gradual heroism of civic duty or compassionate resilience I've seen in historical accounts. I recommend balancing these modern myths with readings in classical virtue ethics and biographies of social reformers to retain a richer, more actionable definition. The truly heroic often lies in sustained, unglamorous courage.
