What is purposeful sampling?

What exactly is purposeful sampling in qualitative sampling methods? I know about snowball sampling and quota sampling. Quick response is appreciated. Thank you in advance.

Dev, purposeful sampling is a sampling strategy where the participants are selected or soughted based on the pre-selected criteria of the research question. There are many types of purposeful sampling methods that you can use for your study.

a) homogenous sampling – this methods aims at achieving a homogenous samples. I.e. units and characteristics of sample must be same.
b) extreme case sampling – this is used to focus on special or unusual cases such as cases that highlights notable results( failures or successes).
c) total population sampling – as the name suggests this technique is used to examine the entire population.
d) typical case sampling – this technique is used when you want to examine the normality/typicality of the units.
