What opportunities exist for biologists and immunologists to work abroad?
Finishing my postdoc in immunology, I'm keen to gain experience abroad, but the paths aren't always clear. Beyond academic postings, what tangible opportunities exist in industry, government, or NGOs? I need advice that reflects the real landscape of global science, not just generic job-search tips.

Based on my colleagues' journeys, I recommend looking beyond traditional academic labs. Realistic pathways include: joining R&D at multinational pharmaceutical hubs in Switzerland or Singapore; contributing to surveillance at institutes like the Pasteur Network or Africa CDC; working with global health NGOs on vaccine rollout; or entering science policy at organizations like the WHO or European Commission. Networking at international conferences is crucial, as many of these roles are filled through professional connections rather than open postings.
