Which theoretical perspectives help explain how environmental erosion impacts communities?

In research on environmental change, erosion is often discussed beyond its physical dimensions.I’m interested in how scholars theorize its social consequences for affected communities. This question aims to connect environmental processes with social theory.

From my experience working across environmental and social research, political ecology and vulnerability theory are especially effective in explaining how erosion affects communities. I have seen these perspectives show that erosion is rarely a purely natural process; it is shaped by land use, governance, and inequality. I would recommend combining these theories because they reveal why environmental damage disproportionately affects marginalized groups and how social structures intensify ecological harm.
