Could anyone recommend key scholarly works that explore Jewish food culture specifically during the wars of the 20th century?
I'm developing a paper on food and resilience. I'm familiar with general histories of Jewish food, but I'm looking for focused academic studies that examine the World Wars, and other 20th-century conflicts, as pivotal moments for Jewish foodways, whether in civilian, ghetto, or displacement contexts.

I would recommend starting with several foundational works. For the Holocaust context, Joan Nathan's "A Holocaust Survivor's Sabbath Menu" and works by scholars like Hasia Diner are crucial. For a broader, excellent analysis, seek out "Food and Foodways in the Jewish Tradition" and look for articles by Cara De Silva on memory recipes. From my reading, I've found that academic interest often centers on how recipes were preserved as intangible heritage in ghettos and camps, and how food served as both a means of survival and a marker of identity in displacement during and after wars.
