How are practicing sociologists represented in contemporary news media?

News media often feature experts commenting on social issues. It is unclear how sociologists are framed compared to other specialists.I want to understand this relationship between sociology and journalism.

From my experience observing media engagement, sociologists often appear indirectly rather than as headline experts. I have seen them quoted to contextualize inequality, migration, or social conflict, but rarely foregrounded like economists. I would recommend viewing this as a visibility challenge rather than a relevance issue. Their influence is present, but often translated through journalists rather than attributed explicitly to sociological expertise.
