 From my experience supervising doctoral projects, the initial literature review usually takes several months, not weeks. I have seen researchers underestimate this phase, only to revisit it repeatedly as their questions sharpen. I would recommend treating the literature review as an evolving process rather than a fixed stage. Early depth builds confidence, but flexibility is essential as new sources and perspectives continue to emerge.
