6 years ago in Starting up PhD By Supriya Mishra

I registered in a doctoral program 2 days back, and the program is going to begin in a month. I want to know what are the main milestones that I should keep in mind.

You must keep the following points in mind: 1. Choose at least one methodological course, and try selecting it in the first year only. If you are an external PhD then, you can follow methodological courses outside the EPFL. 2. You must pass the candidacy test within the12 months after your enrolment. 3. Every year, a short status report will be written and discussed with the mentor. 4. After 3 years of your candidacy exam, your thesis defence will be scheduled by the committee. You must pass that. Then you will be awarded the actaul degree, it will take minimum 1 month and maximum 6 months after the private defence.
