What inequality-focused research would be valuable for Europe, particularly Slovakia?

I’m interested in inequality as a structural issue in Europe, but especially how it manifests in smaller post-socialist economies like Slovakia.Given regional disparities, labor migration, and welfare-state transitions, I’m trying to identify research angles that would be both academically rigorous and socially relevant.I want the work to contribute to policy discussions, not just theory.

From my experience working with Central European policy researchers, the most impactful inequality research in Slovakia often sits at the intersection of regional development and labor mobility. I have seen strong demand for studies on urban–rural divides, educational stratification, and how EU labor migration reshapes family and gender inequalities. I would recommend grounding the work in comparative European data while keeping a clear Slovak case focus. Policymakers respond especially well to research that links structural inequality to long-term demographic and economic sustainability.
