What research examines anti-American sentiment in post-communist states?

In designing my dissertation on Central European political discourse, I'm evaluating various methodological approaches to studying anti-American sentiment. Previous literature seems divided between quantitative survey methods and qualitative discourse analysis, with limited comparative frameworks. I'm curious about innovative mixed-methods approaches that could capture both the prevalence and underlying narratives of these attitudes across different post-communist contexts.

From my experience coordinating multinational research teams, I would recommend a phased mixed-methods approach. Start with quantitative sentiment mapping using representative surveys across your target populations this establishes baseline prevalence. Then, for depth, I've found success with focused discourse analysis of political speeches, media content, and social media conversations. What many researchers miss is the third phase: elite interviews with political actors and media figures. In my work, these interviews revealed how anti-American narratives are strategically deployed rather than organically emerging. Finally, always include a comparative dimension even if studying one country, create analytical comparisons across time periods or demographic groups.
