What resources are available for studying reproductive biology and chromosomes in Ocimum species?

While general plant biology resources are abundant, finding genus-specific information on chromosome numbers, meiotic behavior, and breeding systems for Ocimum is challenging. I need to locate reliable germplasm data, karyotype studies, and foundational papers to contextualize my own cytological work.

From my experience, you'll need to triangulate resources. Start with germplasm databases like the USDA GRIN or the CGIAR genebanks for accession information. For chromosomal data, I would recommend digging into classic taxonomic revisions and the "Index to Plant Chromosome Numbers." Don't overlook modern genomic resources; the Phytozome portal may have emerging Ocimum genome data. Your most critical resource will be a deep dive into specialized journals like Plant Systematics and Evolution or The Journal of Heredity for foundational papers. Build your library from there.
