What short-term measures could address drug dealing in Mexico?

Drug dealing remains a pressing public safety and governance issue in Mexico.Long-term structural solutions exist, but I want to consider measures that could have an immediate effect.I’m looking for approaches that are feasible, context-sensitive, and evidence-based.

From my experience studying crime policy in Latin America, I have seen short-term measures like targeted policing, intelligence-led operations, and community-based surveillance reduce local drug distribution temporarily. I would recommend combining these with harm-reduction initiatives and local social support programs to prevent displacement and escalation. While these measures don’t solve structural issues, they create breathing space for longer-term policy planning and can save lives in the immediate term.
