Why are reaction mechanism databases valuable for chemistry education?

While textbooks are essential, many of my peers and I increasingly rely on digital databases of reaction mechanisms for our studies.
These resources seem to offer a different kind of learning pathway compared to static textbook chapters.
I'm interested in articulating their unique educational value from a pedagogical standpoint.

Having taught advanced organic courses, I've found mechanism databases invaluable for moving students from memorization to understanding. Their primary value is interactivity; students can visualize electron flow dynamically and explore variations, which fosters deeper intuition. They also expose learners to the messy reality of mechanistic debates and contemporary research, not just textbook generalizations. I would recommend using them as a complement to textbooks, as they help students recognize broader patterns and develop the critical thinking skills essential for research.
