Can I submit a synopsis with tentative or alternative methodologies if I’m not yet sure which approach is best?
My project could potentially use either computational modeling or experimental validation as the primary method. Is it acceptable to present both pathways in my synopsis, or will it make my project seem unfocused and poorly planned?

Presenting a primary methodological pathway with a reasoned alternative demonstrates sophisticated planning, not indecision. Structure it like this: Clearly state your preferred primary method (e.g., computational modeling) and justify why it's best suited to answer your core research questions. Then, acknowledge a potential pivot point: "Should initial modeling reveal [specific condition], an experimental validation phase using [technique] will be undertaken." This shows you've considered the research journey's contingencies. Avoid presenting two equally weighted, disconnected paths. Frame the alternative as a logical next step or validation tool within a coherent plan. Committees appreciate a clear main direction coupled with an awareness that research requires adaptive thinking. It shows maturity.
