How can role conflict be distinguished from role strain, with concrete examples?
These two concepts are often discussed together in sociological theory. They appear similar but are analytically distinct.I want a clear distinction supported by examples.

From my experience teaching sociological concepts, role conflict occurs when expectations from different roles clash, such as being both a demanding employee and a primary caregiver. I have seen role strain, by contrast, arise within a single role, like a manager struggling to be both supportive and authoritative. I would recommend keeping this distinction clear, because it helps diagnose whether stress comes from competing roles or internal contradictions within one role.
