Is it correct to diagnose HCV through plasma in the RT PCR test?

I am conducting research and for that I have to diagnose Hepatitis C Virus. I considered using the RT PCR test but now I am confused whether I should use serum or plasma. Some say serum is best but others say plasma is more valid.

What should I do? Any opinions please.

Hello, I don’t understand what the difference is. Both serum and plasma can be used to detect the HCV. So, you can choose any opinion according to my opinion.

Plasma is a viremic blood sample. This means if the plasma detection can help in diagnosing HCV(a viral RNA) through RT PCR, then surely it will be detectable through serum.  So, as Sato said above, you can choose any of the two options.

Hello dear, as the experts above have already mentioned, plasma and serum both can be effectively used to detect the HCV RNA and can also be used to quantify them. However, if you still need a detailed answer as to how you can make your choice, I am attaching a few links to similar articles based on this. I hope you get your confusion cleared and do well in your research.   Thank you and good luck.
