No, they aren’t the same.  Machine learning performs excellently on a small/medium dataset. But deep learning performs well only on big dataset.

Machine learning and deep learning are not the same.  In machine learning one can easily interpret algorithms such as decision tree very easily where it is impossible to interpret algorithms such as SVM.  But in deep learning it is very difficult to interpret the algorithm.

deep learning required high-end machines to function preferably with GPU and also performs great amount of matrix multiplication. Whereas machine can easily work on low-end-machines.

We use machine learning to train small dataset whereas deep learning for large data set.
