To collect data for exploratory research you can use methods such as interviews, surveys, observations, focus groups or any other similar approach.

The data collection methods solely depend on the type of data you require. For example, if you want primary data then use methods such as survey, 
observation, focus groups, etc. Whereas if you want secondary data then use literature research, online research, and case study research.

Identify the research problem and address the issue using various methods.
Develop a hypothesis on the basis of questions obtained when identifying the research problem.
Through descriptive investigation and qualitative approaches to determine if the collected data is true, reliable and accurate.
