Two-sample test vs paired t-test

If you have independent samples then you must use two-sample t-test. Remember, this test is also known as independent t-test. 
   However, if your samples are connected then you should use paired t-test.

Paired t-test can be used in the following situations.
a) When you need to test two production lines to check if their outputs are different.
b) If you want to compare test scores for the same group before as well as after the study.
