Types of inferential data analysis

My guide asked me to use inferential statistics in my study. Why and when should this be used? I have no knowledge about this statistics. Also does it include further classification? Any suggestions?

Geeta, inferential statistics are used to generalise your results and to predict about a larger population.

Oh yes, inferential analysis does include classification. Correlation and regression and the two types of inferential analysis. Correlation – This technique is used to describe the relationship between two variables. For example, taller people usually have a higher weight. Hence, weight and height are correlated with each other. Regression – This technique describes the relationship between two variables. For example, it can help us guess the weight of a person depending on his/her height.

Krishan, not just 2 there 3 types of inferential analysis. Correlation, regression and analysis of variance. Analysis of variance is a statistical procedure that is used to test the variable to which two or more groups differ. I.e. it is used to check if there is any difference in the group. For example, to know the relation between the number of children in a family and economic status, you will have to recruit a sample of families from different economic status and ask them about their ideal number of children.
