Types of variables in quantitative research
There are many types of variables in the quantitative research design. This includes continuous variables, discrete variable, dependent variable, independent variable, controlled variables, and confounding variables.
1. Continuous variable – This type of variable can take any numerical value
2. Discrete variable – Here there is a distinct gap between the individual values
3. Dependent variable – As the name says, if one variable is dependent on another, then it is called as dependent variable
4. Independent variable – If the effect of the variable is unknown then it is known as independent variable
5. Controlled variable – If the effect of a variable is determined by comparing it with another variable then such variables are known as controlled variable
6. Confounding variable – This type of variable influences the dependent variable and its effects are generally confused with the independent variable.

which affects the dependent variable of the study.Â
Variables intervening the criterion or experimental variables are known as an intervening variable.
