What font, spacing, and margin settings are standard for a PhD synopsis?
I want my synopsis to look professionally formatted. Is there a standard like "Times New Roman 12pt, double-spaced, 1-inch margins," or does it vary? Should it match the eventual thesis format?

Unless your department specifies otherwise, these default academic formatting standards are safe and professional:
- Font: Times New Roman or Arial.
- Size: 12-point for body text.
- Line Spacing: 1.5-line or double spacing. (Single spacing can be too dense for review; 1.5 is often ideal.)
- Margins: 1 inch (2.54 cm) on all sides.
- Alignment: Justified or left-aligned for body text.
- Page Numbers: Include them, usually in the footer.
Yes, it's good practice to mirror your university's thesis formatting guidelines where possible. This shows attention to detail and prepares you for the final dissertation format. A clean, consistent layout subconsciously signals rigor and readiness.
