Can I continue my research with low Cronbachâ€™s alpha value?

Dissertation

The Cronbach’s alpha value in my study is 0.4. Can I continue with such a low value?
My study is qualitative in nature.
Please help me with this.

The Cronbach’s alpha value depends on the qualities of the additional items. The Increase in the number of items will not affect it. In fact, developing a scale, deleting poor items increases the coefficient.

Low Cronbach’s alpha value indicated that the items in the questionnaire of your study are not correct. According to Nunnally (1978), the Cronbach alpha should be higher than 0.7.

I agree, we don’t use Cronbach’s alpha for a qualitative study. As the data is not suitable for it. All you have text and transcripts of the interviews.

Cronbach’s alpha value of O.4 is low. I don’t think that you can continue with such a low value. The acceptable level is O.6. But if your study is qualitative then, you need not to justify the validity with Cronbach, there are so many other techniques that you can use for validity.
