Since, you do not have the assurance on whether they retain your data with them or not, I would suggest to never opt for these free options. I think you should instead go for paid versions, which looks like a wiser choice as one needs to be extremely careful regarding their PhD research work.   I have myself made use of Grammarly. However, some of the other prominently used (paid) tools for checking plagiarism are Turnitin, Plagiarism Checker X, ProWritingAid, Viper, etc., Also, another plus point of using these tools is that the plagiarism report generated on this is considered to be reliable & can be attached along with your thesis. My friend, I would suggest you to go for a paid software. I am pretty sure that the so called free plag checking websites might even sell your data online to other websites. Because there’s no other explanation as to why they would do it for free as nothing comes for free in this world. So why take such a big risk with your thesis. Spend some bucks and get something that’s trustworthy. But yes, before you decide to opt for a paid software, make sure that you review their policies thoroughly on whether they ensure confidentiality of your data or not.

Go for a paid software or website buddy! Those sites that claim to provide free service might often misuse your data. Ask your guide or supervisor for suggestions on which software or website to use as they themselves must be using genuine ones. I have used Urkund. It is a reliable one.
