Free Software for Curve fitting or best-fit equation

I need a software which can be run in command mode. As right now, I am using TableCurve2D for fitting the data. But there is one problem with this software, i.e., it is windows based and commercial software. I would be highly appreciated if anyone of you could suggest me a free software which I can use.

I used “R” in my research. It is an open source, and it is command-line or script based. Take a look at http://cran.r-project.org/ and http://www.bioconductor.org/
